What a journey it has been.
They say every cloud has a silver lining – and dare I say it – I think TSW may be the best thing that ever happened to me.
I totally transformed my health. I learned to be at one with my body. I learned to be strong. Three marathons. An Ironman. Freed myself from all medications. And now, a book.
Getting this story into words was a battle in itself. A form of therapy, I suppose, which made it violently emotional, but also healing. More importantly, I knew this story had to be shared, somehow, for all the people who had fought alongside me, and those who will inevitably come after me. TSW is not widely studied, but as we share our stories, we become harder to ignore, and more people will understand what we go through, and how to prevent it.
In saying that, this book is not a TSW textbook or a how-to-cure book. It is simply my story – of the characters and events and emotions that coloured those two painful but life-changing years. My hope is that you will read it, love it, share it, gift it, and embrace it as the voice to represent all of our stories.
My book is Iron Skin: A Memoir. I sincerely hope it speaks to your heart, and you love it.
With all my love and gratitude,
Bren
